"As a surgeon for more than 25 years I have a responsibility to help my patients stop smoking, as in the majority of cases it may save their lives. I refer my patients to EasyStop because their Method is the most effective way to stop smoking that I have found to date. My own daughter gave up smoking using the EasyStop Method over 18 months ago, and has not smoked since. As a father, I am delighted with that and will continue to recommend EasyStop as I have personally seen the results, which appear to be permanent."

L Cavendish"I am a very sceptical person and when I read about the EasyStop (Stop Smoking) method claiming that in only two sessions I would stop forever I was unsure. I used to smoke 20 a day. 4 years ago I went to EasyStop and I have never smoked again. Not only that, I have never wanted to!"

Alex Prior"Since completing the EasyStop (Stop Smoking) course I have not had a single cigarette. I was surprised to find it was easy not smoking, and I no longer found the idea of cigarettes appealing. Now I always go for the no smoking section of a restaurant. It is easier than I thought to not smoke cigarettes."

Kick the smoking habit
by Lisa Grainger

Three months ago we sent four smokers keen to kick the habit to try alternative therapies. So how did they do? Smoker Andrew Wilson, 38, management consultant.

First cigarette?
At a party when I was about 15.

How many a day?
About 25.

Reasons for giving up?
I am embarrassed to be a smoker. I smell and it's unhealthy, unsociable and unprofessional. And my new girlfriend hates it.

Past attempts?
In February 1995 I stopped for a period of time. Then a girlfriend left some cigarettes in the car and I started smoking again.

Greatest temptation?
When you think you've got it under control and that you can just have one drag. That's a tough one. And when I drink.

Therapy?
Two EasyStop (Stop Smoking) sessions - which tries to change patterns of mental or emotional behaviour - with coursework in between. At the first session the therapist asked about my habit: how many, when and where I smoked. She pointed out that nicotine increases, rather than decreases, stress levels and went into why stopping would make me feel better: my breath, my health, my psychological state. Then she gave me some strategies. I went back for my second treatment- 'mental strategies were used this time, to focus on how great I was going to feel and to motivate me. After that, I had to send her a postcard every day for a week, telling her how good I felt. I also had to keep the bottle of ash and butts to smell, should I be tempted to light up.

Success?
Completely. I haven't thought about smoking or had any cravings.
